Web Hosting in Buffalo, NY

This is the one page on this site where we are writing about our own city. AldoMedia has been in Buffalo since 1999, and most of the businesses we look after are within an hour of the office. If you want web hosting in Buffalo, NY from a company you can actually turn up at, this is it.

AldoMedia is at 656 North French, Ste 2, Buffalo NY 14228, and the number is 716-771-2536. This is our only office, and has been since 1999. Setup and support still happen remotely, because that is how hosting works, but the company is genuinely local.

We are actually here

Most hosting is sold by companies with no address you could visit, or with a hundred addresses that all resolve to the same call centre. We have one office, in Buffalo, and we have been at this since 1999.

That does not make the hosting faster. It is worth being honest about what it does change. It means you are dealing with somebody on your time zone, who knows what a February week does to a service business here, and who is not going to disappear behind a ticket queue when something breaks.

What twenty-five years in one city actually buys you

Mostly it buys pattern recognition. We have seen the same handful of problems arrive over and over from businesses in this economy: a site built by somebody who left town, a domain registered to an email address nobody can get into any more, a hosting renewal that quietly tripled, a medical practice sitting on software four years out of date.

  • We have moved sites off nearly every host a local business is likely to be on.
  • We know what an old site built on a dead platform looks like before we open it.
  • We can tell you what a website here costs to run in a year, honestly, on the running costs page.
  • If you inherited a site and nobody will hand over the login, that is a known problem with a known process. See taking over a website.

Being local is a reason to trust us. It is not a reason the hosting is better. Those are different claims and we are only making the first one.

Have a look at what you are actually paying for

Send us the address of your site and a copy of your last hosting bill. We will tell you what the site weighs, how fast it loads on a phone, and whether the plan is the right one. If it already is, we will say so.

What a Buffalo winter asks of a website

Weather is the closest thing this city has to a shared business calendar. A serious snow week rearranges everyone's month. Restaurants close early or close entirely, contractors get a fortnight of emergency calls compressed into two days, and medical offices spend the morning telling people whether they are open.

The website's job in that week is small and specific. Say whether you are open. Say it in text a person can read on a phone with cold hands, near the top of the page, without hunting.

The part people get wrong

They put the closure notice somewhere they cannot edit. A banner baked into a template, a graphic that needs design software, a page only the designer has access to. By the time it is updated the storm has passed and the notice is now wrong in the other direction.

  • Keep one editable line at the top of the homepage that you can change in a minute from a phone.
  • Update your Google Business Profile first. For a lot of searches that is what people actually see.
  • Remember the notice is only useful if it comes down again. Put a reminder on it.
  • Do not rely on social posts alone. They scroll away and they are not everybody's habit.

Snow does not break hosting. It exposes whether you can edit your own website, which is a different problem and a solvable one.

Moving a site without losing the email

Most people who call us are not launching something new. They are leaving something: a host that got slow, a plan that jumped at renewal, a person who stopped answering. That is a migration, and migrations are routine right up until the email stops.

The order of operations is what matters. Copy the site to the new server first. Test it there, on a temporary address, until it is genuinely working. Only then point the domain across. Done that way the site never goes dark, because the old server keeps answering until each visitor's connection catches up.

Email is where it goes wrong, and it goes wrong the same way nearly every time. Somebody rebuilds the DNS from scratch at the new host and does not carry over the mail records. The site looks perfect and the business loses a day of enquiries before anyone notices the phone is too quiet. Write the existing records down before touching anything. The full sequence is on the website migration page, and moving mailboxes specifically is covered under email migration.

If you are moving a practice or a shop that takes enquiries by email, we schedule the switch for a quiet morning, not a Friday afternoon.

We will handle the move

Copy, test, switch the domain, keep the mail records intact. You carry on working while it happens, and afterwards there is a local number to call when you need something changed.

What a small business here usually overpays for

This is the section hosting companies leave out, so here it is plainly. Most of the businesses in this city that ask us to look at their bill are paying for something they do not use.

  • A large plan for a small site. A few pages that change occasionally sit comfortably on shared hosting.
  • A security add-on that duplicates something already included. Ask what is in the plan before buying more.
  • A website builder subscription for a site nobody has edited in three years.
  • Extra storage, when the real problem is a dozen photographs uploaded straight off a phone at full size.
  • A separate email product when the mail is already sorted, or the reverse: free consumer email on a business that should be on Microsoft 365.

Spending more is worth it in specific cases. A site taking bookings or payments. A practice with patient forms on it. A large gallery of real work. A business where a day of downtime costs you jobs the same day. Visitor numbers on their own almost never justify it.

For everything else, the honest answer is that the entry tier is enough and the money is better spent making the pages lighter.

What local really means for web hosting in Buffalo, NY

Here is the argument against us, made properly. Your website does not live in Buffalo. It lives in a data centre, and which state that building is in makes no measurable difference to somebody loading your page across town. We are an independent authorised reseller, not the owner of the machines. Any competent host anywhere can serve your site to this city just as fast.

So distance is not the thing you are buying. What varies between hosting companies is who answers when something is wrong, how long it takes, and whether that person will still be there next year.

That is the part where being here helps. Not because we can drive over, though we sometimes do. Because a company with one office in one city has to live with its reputation in that city. There is nowhere to hide from a business across town who tells everyone we were useless.

If you want the fastest possible page in Buffalo, the answer is not a Buffalo host. It is resized images and caching. That is true everywhere and we would rather tell you than sell you a plan that does not fix it.

Trades we work with most in this city

Buffalo runs on medicine, manufacturing and a service economy that has been rebuilding for two decades, and these three keep us busiest.

Restaurants

Hours change with the weather here more than anywhere, so the menu and the open sign both have to be editable in a minute from a phone.

Restaurants hosting

Contractors

Storm damage and an old housing stock mean the work arrives in bursts, and the site has to load and show a tappable number on the day it does.

Contractors hosting

Medical practices

Patient forms, staff pages and appointment requests raise the stakes on security, backups and keeping the software current.

Every trade we cover is on hosting by industry, and every city on our locations page.

Common questions

Buffalo hosting questions

My current hosting company is out of state. Is that a reason on its own to move to a Buffalo company?

No. If the site loads well and somebody answers you when it does not, stay where you are. Distance is not what makes hosting good or bad. The reasons to move are a plan that jumped at renewal, a control panel nobody will hand over, or support that stopped replying. If none of those apply, you can leave it alone and spend the effort on the pages instead.

A designer registered our domain years ago. Who actually owns it now?

Whoever is listed as registrant at the registrar owns it, and that is often the designer rather than the business. It matters because the domain, not the website, is the thing you cannot replace. Ask for the registrar login, or start a transfer to an account in the company name. If nobody responds, the registrar has a dispute process and proof of trading name usually settles it.

How long does a move take, and what is likely to break while it happens?

The copy and testing is the slow part and usually runs across a couple of days. The switch itself is quick, and the website stays up throughout because the old server keeps answering. Mail is what breaks, and it breaks when the existing records are rebuilt from memory rather than copied. Write them down first and nothing goes dark.

Our old web company has stopped answering and we still need seasonal hours changed on the site. What now in Buffalo?

Do not wait for them. Get into the registrar and the hosting account first, because those are recoverable with paperwork even without passwords. Meanwhile update your Google Business Profile, since in a bad weather week that is what most people here see anyway. Then we can copy the site to a place you control and make the hours editable from a phone.
