Stay where you are if
- The line into the building is unreliable. This is the first gate and it fails more often here than in a flat state with one cable company. A line that drops for ten seconds is worse than one that is merely slow.
- Power cuts are a normal part of your year. No power means no router and no phones. A copper handset keeps working because the line carries its own power. That is a real difference and it deserves a plan.
- A fax machine carries real work. Fax was designed around a copper line, and the tones do not come through intact once they are data.
- Something else is wired to that copper. Alarm panels, elevator phones, older card terminals. Cancelling the line can take them out.
- Your contract has real time left. An early termination charge on top of a new monthly bill is worse than waiting for the end date.
